Portrait Week

A week dedicated to portraiture

Manic Week (Spring)

Artist Statement:

How can I use sculpture to portray humanity and nature as the biological interactions? I showed the ways humans are helped (2,3,4,5,6) harmed (1,8) and unaffected (7) by nature, simultaneously how nature was helped (6,8) harmed (2,4) and unaffected (1,3,5,7) by humans. Multiple interactions conflict each other (mutualism and parasitism, commensalism and amensalism) highlighting, how every action has a consequence even if it was unintended, and the magnitude of those actions even if they were miniscule.

I used my visual journals to display my ideas coherently, by using colors, words, and shapes that embody the effect I’m trying to go for. I experimented with glaze combos (3), shape and structure (1,5), texture and pattern (1,2,4).
